Being a young boy or a man with womanly breasts can be one of the most severe psychological problems one can face. Man boobs, moobs or however they are called can cause the sufferer to lose self-esteem, become the subject of ridicule and bullying and also developing depression and anxiety disorders. Read on about the effects of man boobs on your life and what you could do about it to address them.
What are man boobs?
Man boobs is a condition called gynecomastia. It comes from the Greek words meaning woman breasts, and it can be one of the most dreaded conditions. The enlargement of the breast tissue can cause a woman-like appearance, affecting the lives of teenagers and adults alike.
Most gynecomastia cases affect young men during puberty, and although they can resolve in a few years, the psychological effects of being bullied at school will not go away. Many boys with man boobs become the target of bullies and they are often ridiculed in public. Because of this, they can severely be affected on a psychological level, as they lose self-esteem and the sense of manhood. The boys would normally develop their self-image by now, but due to the constant harassment and ridicule, they will lose all confidence in them.
Becoming subject to social ridicule
Adults are not free from the psychological effects of having man boobs either. Going to the gym or just spending a normal day at the beach become impossible things, as the adults will quickly become the subject of ridicule and be made fun of by other men and women alike.
Isolating from social events and relationships
While teenage boys may not have the opportunity to skip from school and avoid social events that would expose them and their condition, adults do have a choice. This will often cause them to isolate themselves from engaging of fun social activities due to the fear of becoming overwhelmed by social anxiety. Many adults and boys as well will withdraw from activities they once enjoyed, and anxiety and severe
depression often follows.
Teenagers and adults may also be afraid to engage in romantic relationships due to the fact that they would not stand being laughed at by their partner for their womanly breasts. Some people in relationships may be highly sensitive against remarks regarding their so-called man boobs, and some may become even aggressive and argumentative. Others will reject dating opportunities altogether while others may withdraw from them.
What to do?
For teenagers at puberty, most gynecomastia cases will resolve after two or more years. However, they may not stand being ridiculed for that long in which case they may choose plastic surgery. Surgical removal of the glandular tissue is an option for adults as well. There are also some cases in which the man boobs are caused by excessive fat which can be treated with diet changes and exercises. Hormonal imbalances may be addressed by interrupting the treatment causing it or re-balancing it with others.
And there is finally the option of finding a support group that can help deal with the problems and get the proper treatment in order to regain the sense of manhood deserved.
